Celtic/Rangers Match LIVE Sunday Morning

Celtic logo Hail Hail the Celts are Here!

Come join Adam bright and early 6:30am CDT for the Old Firm match at The Local in downtown Minneapolis. Celtic currently enjoy a 4-point lead over rivals Rangers and Hibernian in the Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League. These teams HATE each other, and the matches are always hard-fought, scrappy and extremely entertaining to watch.

What does this have to do with Wild Colonial Bhoys? Well, we named our band in homage to Celtic (nicknamed the Bhoys), so it’s kind of a seminal part of who we are.

Last season the Local showed the game, and there were embarrassing numbers for the Celtic faithful, as we were outnumbered by Rangers (the Huns, the Forces of Darkness) supporters 2-1. Let’s not have this happen again people! The match is free and what else are you doing at that hour of the day? No excuse…

See you at the match. Hail hail!

Thank you, Greeley!

Wow!  I just checked out the video (on our Media page) from the Greeley Irish Festival.  I had such a great time in Greeley – as I know the rest of the Bhoys did!  Thanks so much to everyone who made our show the best we’ve ever had.  Sometimes the long miles catch up to us on the road, but when we got to Greeley we remembered why we do what we do.  Thanks for making it all worthwhile!

In other news, it’s no secret anymore - our long-time run at the Dubliner in St. Paul has come to an end.  It’s a little sad ’cause we had such great times there.  I’ll definitely take away some great memories from our time there.  Thanks to everyone at the Dub and to all our friends and fans who came to see us, rain or shine!

The Weston Irish Fest is fast approaching.  I know it’ll be a blast (it always is!) so I hope everyone in the KC area can make it out for the craic.  ‘Til then…

Cheers,

Geno

End of an Era…

Hi WCB Fhans…

We are sad to announce that our Sunday shows at the Dubliner in St. Paul
have been cancelled, effective immediately. We’ve been there for five years
and have had a great run; this economy has really not been kind to small
independent businesses like the Dubliner, and they’d like to go in a
different direction.

We’d like to thank the Dubliner, its ownership and staff for a great five
years, and we’d like to thank you our fhans for coming out on what is
essentially a weeknight and supporting us!

We will keep you posted on possibilities for another house gig, so keep in
touch.

Thanks,
WCB

New Video from Greeley

youtube Oh boy! Todd Snover of Omaha, Nebraska has just put up a really cool video from Greeley on Youtube! Thanks, Todd! You can see it by going to our Media/Video page or by clicking on the YouTube logo.

Thank you Greeley, Nebraska!

The Bhoys’ shows at the Greeley Irish Festival were a complete success! Thanks you to the organizers and volunteers for hosting WCB! Check out Adam’s blog for more info about the performances.

GREELEY!

Greeley–you guys are PHENOMENAL. Really, I mean that. We had SUCH an amazing time at the Greeley Irish Festival, and thanks to all you great people who were there supporting us!

I really didn’t know what to expect going to Greeley, Nebraska. I had never been there, or even really heard of it. We drove a lot of miles in the couple of days preceding Saturday, as we played a show for Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day in St. Paul at Shamrocks on Thursday, and then a show at O’Malley’s in Weston on Friday. I was a little tired and apprehensive, but when we got to the festival I found a nice second wind and we ROCKED. Greeley is a cool little town with a long Irish history, believe it or not. All the streets are called things like Galway St., Sligo St., O’Neill Ave., etc. Definitely surprising to see in the middle of the American midwest.

We did two sets; the first one in the afternoon was cool. The sun was of course right in my eyes but that’s really the only negative thing I have to say about our set. I thought we played really well and were heartily applauded. We kept things sort of casual for the older people in the crowd, and I think we went over well.

The real show was our 10pm set– we were scheduled to close things down, and I was really excited about that. It’s not often we get to be the band playing “under the lights” at Irish festivals since usually we’re somewhere down on the bill; this was a really cool thing. It was pretty cold out (I’m guessing around 50 degrees) and you could actually see your breath on stage! We managed to work up a sweat though. haha

We opened the set with Hair of the Dog and Locked Away, and I think by the time we were halfway through Locked Away we had a huge crowd pressed up against the front of the stage! It was AWESOME, without a doubt one of the best WCB shows we have ever played. People were crowd surfing, going nuts dancing, tearing up shrubbery, throwing undergarments and the whole deal. I couldn’t stop laughing I was having such an amazing time. I didn’t know people in Greeley, Nebraska knew how to rock like that but I take my hats off to you guys–I cannot WAIT to go back for your festival again in 2010! We did TWO encores and they just kept wanting more! We ended our set at 11pm with Home for a Rest and I Am Ireland as is our common practice, but I guess were were just warming up. I couldn’t believe the reaction we got and when the emcee gave his okay, we came on again and did Kinky Boots and Celtic Symphony. That STILL wasn’t enough apparently, so we came back out AGAIN and did Waxies’ Dargle. I was so charged up I didn’t get to sleep until 5am. Amazing, like I said.

As if all this wasn’t enough, after the festival ended we were invited out to the local watering hole. A place called Frogger’s. We loaded out and said our thank yous and goodbyes, and walked towards the bar three blocks away. We’d only gone a block when a guy in a pickup truck came along and asked if we wanted a ride, so we rode to the bar in the bed of a truck instead. It was pretty funny.

We entered the bar and got the biggest ovation we had received on the night!! I couldn’t get to the bar for all the handshaking and back slapping to be done. Couldn’t buy a drink, either… What great people. I’m really sold on Greeley Nebraska! Like I said, can’t wait to go back! Hopefully someone took some pics and/or video of the deal–if you have some content, send it to me and I’ll get it up on the site with a nice little credit for you of course!

Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day!

It’s about that time again…

Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day is September 17th!

To celebrate we are playing a special super-cool show at Shamrocks on West 7th and Randolph in St. Paul! It’ll be Adam, Geno and Cody singing, laughing and imbibing, so come get your Irish up with us!

Up, up, and away!

This is huge!  After many false starts, our website is up and runnin’! (And looking great)

I’m not always able to get to a computer these days, but I’ll check in as often as I can.  In the meantime, the rest of the Bhoys will keep you all endlessly entertained!

We’ve got a lot of stuff coming up…  Can you believe it’s almost halfway to St. Patrick’s Day again?  Adam, Cody, and I will be playing at the big “Halfway” tent party at Shamrocks in St. Paul on Sept. 17.  Then we’re all hitting the road for a quick and dirty mini-tour of the midwest.  We’ll be at O’Malley’s Pub in Weston, MO, for a one-night-only, don’t-miss-it celtic rock extravaganza on Friday, Sept. 18.  Then it’s back on the road heading to Greeley, NE, for the Greeley Irish Festival on Sept. 19.  This’ll be our first time at the Greeley festival and we’re very excited to be headling this year.

Also, I know everyone’s been waiting patiently…  we’re working on getting our new live album ready for release.  It’ll be here soon. I promise!

Cheers,

Geno
